you are saved through jesus christ if you've repented & given your life to him. you have the holy ghost dwelling in you if you have indeed accept christ as your savior. the baptism of the holy ghost however, is a "gift" that is for those who want it & it is usually evidenced by speaking in other tongues, the gift of knowledge, gift of wisdom, etc. believers who have been "baptized" in the holy ghost use these gifts to help other members of the body of christ.
i experienced this "baptism of the holy ghost" about 27 yrs ago & it is an experience i'll never forget. i felt holy fire just pouring from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet & words i didn't know started pouring out of my mouth. i know this was praising god because it was an overwhelming experience of worship. it is real, but it is not necessary for salvation. it is a gift of god, as i said, for those who desire it.
